Halloween and The Flower Industry

As we approach Halloween, the flower industry raises its prices on Halloween flowers. As we all know Halloween colors are orange and black. There are some beautiful orange flowers like fresh roses, gerberas, bird of paradise, orange lilies, Alstroemerias flower and Heliconias plants, that can be used for Halloween decorations.

Black color flowers are few and hard to find, Black Magic roses and dark purple Calla Lilies are the only flowers get close to black.

For this Halloween we suggest you color some of your flowers. Carnations and Sun Flowers are the easiest to color, great fall flowers. Here is how you can color your flowers. Feel the vase half way with warm water (preferably 110F temperature) and add 4 or 5 drops of food coloring to the water, if you can find black it would be great, if not use dark brown or dark red colors or a mix to get as dark as possible.

First experiment with one or two white color carnations, which will show the results in one or two hours, then you, can use darker color flowers. With a sharp knife, cut 2 to 3 inches from the end of the stems at 45 degree angle and put your flowers in a vase filled with water and food coloring and enjoy.
